Dear Greenbriar Oceanaire Members,
As the temperature drops and another golf season concludes, we wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for being a part of our golf family in 2016. During the offseason, we worked closely with the Golf Advisory Committee (GAC) and Board of Directors (BOD) to plan an exciting, fresh and fun filled event calendar for everyone. Our collective goal was to introduce new events and formats that would help bring more members together and increase satisfaction leading to more participation.
Our first new event was the Match Play Championship for both men and women where individuals faced off in a bracket style event. After multiple hard fought matches and friendly banter between competitors, Ralph Lella and Tulay Duyal were crowned their respective champions. As this event was deemed a Greenbriar Major, a perpetual trophy is now proudly displayed alongside the four other Major event awards in the golf shop.
The next addition in 2016 was not necessarily new but certainly refreshed and improved. Members from the GAC, BOD, Dining Committee, Maggies and Billy Casper came together and proposed opening up the Labor Day tournament lunch to the entire community. Everyone felt that a pig roast would be a fun way for the community to come together and celebrate the holiday together. After a record crowd of over 260 residents attended we deemed our efforts a success! This event demonstrated best the committee initiatives to bring existing members together, new members to the club and continued outreach to our non-golfing neighbors.
The third new event was our Team Match Play held in September. One of the goals of this event was to pair members that may not normally play together and compete in a friendly yet formal setting against fellow member teams. After multiple well played battles for every stroke and some rigorous team play, Mike Ehrlich and Ken Robins outlasted the field and were crowned Team Match Play Champions for 2016.
Finally, no season would be complete without our showcase events. The Member Guest, held in July, ended up a perfect day for members to show their family, friends and guests how truly beautiful our golf course is while competing for excellent gifts and enjoying delicious food. Congratulations to Dave Wicki and Antonio Totto for winning the Gross prize and Rich Wetmore and Chuck Mullen who claimed this year’s top Net spot. Finally, the last major of the year, our much anticipated Club Championship. After the dust settled, a new Men’s Club Champion, John Zelechoski declared victory. Tulay Duyal who has seen her name on the trophy before re-emerged as our Women’s 2016 Club Champion. Congratulations to everyone who participated.
So as we say goodbye to another golf season in New Jersey, many of you will be sharpening your skills in warmer climates. We thank you for the support of your committees, participation in club events and your enthusiasm for golf at Greenbriar. We’re already working hard on plans for 2017 and look forward to continuing to improve your golf experience at the beautiful place we call home. If you have any suggestions, please contact us as we want to hear your feedback too!
